The Postel Falcons Womens Gold team recently won the Summer GBL Womens Gold Title with a hard fought win against Uni Reds 66-50.
The ladies finished the season 13 & 4 and on top of the ladder but stumbled at the first hurdle dropping their Semi Final to Uni Reds and forcing them to make the Grand Final through the Preliminary Final against Lang Park.
The team had struggled against Lang Park all season with tight wins in all 3 meetings so this was going to be a tough one. The ladies didn’t want to waste the great season they had during the regular season so were ready to meet Lang Park head on.
They showed their intentions early jumping Lang Park and taking an 11pt lead after the first quarter but there was a long time to go in this game. LP cut the lead to 5 by half time.
The defensive pressure was lifted by our ladies in the third quarter keeping LP to 9pts in the quarter and grabbing a 13 pt lead which they were not going to let go of.
The 4th quarter went basket for basket but LP could not cut into the lead and the Postel Falcons team won by 15pts and gained a berth in the Grand Final.
Revenge was on the minds of our ladies against Uni Reds in the Grand Final and although the first quarter finished even at 12-12 our team was ready to strike.
A 22pt second quarter gave our ladies an 11pt lead going into the half but Uni were not prepared to give up just yet. A low scoring third quarter by our team gave Uni a sniff with them vutting it to a 6pt lead at the third quarter break and the game was up for grabs.
Our ladies came out in the last quarter and no one was going to stop them winning this game. A great scoring performance with a 24pt final term gave our ladies the richly deserved win for all their hard work this season. The final score indicated how well our team played all season finishing with a 66-50 win and the title of GBL WOMENS GOLD CHAMPIONS!!!
Not to be outdone our group of young Postel Falcons girls playing in the GBl Womens Silver competition battled well all season playing teams that were older and had greater experience than them. Superbly lead by Head Coach Dave Owens, these young girls fought their way to a second position on the table at the end of the regular season. Unfortunately our girls didn’t quite get the bounce of the ball their way during the finals and were knocked out at the Preliminary Final stage. These girls can be very proud of their efforts and it shows that there are great things ahead for the Postel Falcons GBL Womens program.
WELL DONE TO BOTH TEAMS!!!
