In what was a real David v Goliath matchup and I do mean that literally height-wise, our girls stood up and played some outstanding basketball to continue the club’s dominance over the past 3 years in the GBL U23 Women’s division in the GBL Championship Season.
Over the past 2 years in the finals University and West Brisbane have matched up with West Brisbane winning both times. The young ladies from those 2 teams have now moved on to form our GBL Women’s Gold team so it was up to our next team of young ladies to step up and fill those very big shoes.
To say they did that and more would be an understatement.
The girls came out and virtually didn’t put a foot wrong as they forced the more experienced University team in to many turnovers which created many easy scoring opportunities. To University’s credit they hung tough and West Brisbane only had a 6pt lead at half time.
In the second half the Falcons girls really turned the screws on defensively and not only was their on ball defence outstanding but the help defence was just as good and showed that this was going to be a TEAM effort by the Falcons girls.
Falcons blew out the game and lead by 30 at various stages of the 4th quarter and ended up winning 52-28.
A great season by all the young ladies who participated in the Falcons GBL U23 Women’s program and one these young ladies should be very proud of.
